Scottsburg 1958 and Sao Paulo 2014

THE THRILL OF VICTORY AND THE    AGONY OF DEFEAT !!!!!

Up Front: I have only played in a half dozen soccer games while in the USAF. It is the hardest sport I have ever played----no rest and running all the time.

I have watched three grand kids play the game and I got tired just watching them play.

The humiliating and tearful loss of Brazil to Germany in the World Cup brought back memories of the Shawe defeat of Scottsburg in the 1958 Sectional at Scottsburg,

TWO REAL DOCTOR HORROR STORIES---You Can Get A Bad Doctor !

THE FOLLOWING DOCTOR STORIES ARE VERY TRUE, SAD BUT TRUE:

1. I was sitting in a large heart surgery waiting room with a family of the church I was pastoring in northern OK. Approximately 40 people were in the room. A doctor with mask and scrubs come in and asks a family near me,

"Do you folks know a good surgeon I might call to assist me? My other surgeon has not arrived and I cannot contact him! I cannot start your family member's surgery until another surgeon arrives."

The doctor and the family went outside the waiting room to continue their discussion.

I am not a violent person; however, I wanted to hit that dumb doctor!

2. My wife was hospitalized for several days with a very serious condition. I tried several times to get her main doctor to share with me his prognosis of her condition.

He sent me a message through his hospital office staff that I would have to schedule an appointment for which I would be charged. I reluctantly scheduled the appointment and went to his hospital office and he came to the receptionist desk and asked me to follow him.

I did and we entered the main waiting room of the hospital were he discussed my wife's serious condition with me and about 25 other very quiet listeners!

Yes, I did get billed.

IT CAN''T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS ! V 2.0

HOW LUCKY CAN ONE GUY BE ?????

( Please Note: I am not providing investment advice or offering to finance venture capital start-ups.)

I recently bought 100, never opened, wall calendars from a travelling laid off harmonica repairman for a buck a piece. The calendars are a mix of 2009-2011 calendars.

A few days later a disabled catfish fisherman attempted to hold us up at a stop light. He had a jar of stink bait and threatened to open it unless we gave him our money. Because I was broke, I wrote him a check!!!!!

Late night TV is were the real bargains are.

I bought our 16 year old grandson a Teenage Do It Yourself Atomic Bomb Kit. The line that sold me was when the announcer said, "Your kid can be the first kid on the block to be the only kid on the block !"

I received an invitation to address the Million Mime March. They only wanted a written speech.

The best part is when I bought 1,000 shares in a sequin mine located near Las Vegas for only $.55 a share. The guy said to me all of the performers in Vegas are partially covered in sequins.

REFLECTIONS ON RETURN TRIP TO OKLAHOMA !

Living just off of I-40 it is common to see the NASCAR semi-trucks carrying the SPRINT Series cars east and west to/from CA, KS, AZ, and TX.

During our return to OK from my Dad's 99th birthday we saw a NATIONWIDE Series car at the motel we were staying in----# 14. I hoped to see some of the crew----no luck.

On I-44 in MO a professional bass fisherman, his pick-up and decked out,  insignia covered boat, passed us like the start of a tournament !

We are now back home in OK. Lots of stories of people we met will follow later.

Skinny Ankles and Tenderloin Sandwiches !

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS OF RECENT TRIP TO COLUMBUS /NORTH VERNON INDIANA

1. Hoosiers are the world champs in maintaining picture perfect yards.

2. Didn't see a single super dirty car in Indiana. OK has many miles of unpaved roads.

3. Both Hoosier women and men have very skinny ankles compared to our family and most Okies.

4. Best tenderloin sandwich in the world at Zaharahos in Columbus. Pricey but worth it !

5. Columbus calls itself "The Athens" of the Prairie. This is only half right. Oklahoma IS the Prairie !!!

Final comment: When the Welte Orchestrion (Automatic Organ from 1908) played Oklahoma at Zaharahos, I stood up! Looked silly---but very proud!

WOW! WHAT A DAY !!!!!

Dad's big 99th Birthday Celebration was very, very special. About 100 friends and family members were present.

Several PCHS , Deputy HS, and Dupont HS former students were in attendance. It was mighty nice to talk to some folks I had not seen in 50 plus years ! For a few precious hours I was in a time machine that propelled me back to some great experiences and simpler and happier times.

Special thanks to Blog readers who came to North Vernon to help make this day a day to remember.

US CONSTITUTION WINS !

The primary election returns from VA makes a statement heard from the White House to the Courthouse that America is first and foremost a nation of laws and not men.

Also, the results show that money does not vote but people do. The new comer winner spent 1/4 of a million  dollars and the incumbent entrenched opponent spent 5 million dollars!

As many of the readers of this Blog know, we have an obligation to leave our great nation in the hands of our children and grandchildren with a clear road map of the future.

That political road map is the Constitution and the moral compass is the Bible. Both made this a great nation and will keep us great.

God Bless America!

AFTER ALL THIS IS OKLAHOMA

  • Tecumseh council takes no action on chicken ordinance

The Tecumseh city council considered an ordinance Monday night to allow residents up to four backyard chickens, but there were concerns about some of the wording in the proposal, so no action was taken.
Vice-Mayor Linda Praytor, who has been a proponent of the chicken issue, was among those worried about it allowing, as worded, ducks, geese, turkeys, guineas and pigeons in town. Another area also called for a limitation of eight chickens for those in agriculture-zoned areas, for which Praytor was against.
And while there was much talk about chickens at this and two previous meetings, Mayor Eddy Parker said, “I don’t think we’ve seen an ordinance as much fun as this.”
And while the mayor said he had received calls against such an issue, “you’re always gong to have a mixed review,” he said.
But he agreed with Praytor that those zoned for agricultural, meaning those with five acres or more, shouldn’t have a limit of eight chickens.
Councilor Linda Farris was concerned about the possibility of feral chickens after seeing a TV show about problems in Miami, Fla.
The council discussed that those residences in town zoned R-1 could have chickens if they have the space as outlined in the proposed ordinance, which would be about three lots that are 75 feet by 150 feet. But there was some discussion how some residential lots zoned R-1 that aren’t big enough, so because of that, there was confusion amongst a few in attendance on whether they would be eligible or not.
As discussion continued, Praytor said there are some people worried about chickens because of the waste they can produce, but she said the waste of four chickens in one day is the same as the waste of one dog.
Praytor, who said she feels like she’s the only one fighting for chickens, said they are productive animals. Four to five backyard chickens would produce about 120 eggs for a family each month, she said.

      (NAME WITHHELD)------ ANSWERED

      Dear (Name Withheld)

I discussed your letter with my husband and our 8 year old daughter. The incident you reported was (Name Withheld) dropping (Name Withheld) off at the YMCA for swim team practice.

My advice to you is to stop your twisted attempt to stir up martial discord, take your meds regularly, and go to a drug store and buy you some Snore-Ez.

Ready to go to Fist City,

      (Name Withheld)

      Dear (Name Withheld),

You do not know me; however, I feel compelled to alert you to a low down home wrecker.

I was driving by the YMCA last Friday evening and I saw your husband walking hand-in-hand with a female wearing a tight fitting red swim suit. Just before she entered the YMCA, he kissed her on the cheek and then entered his car and drove away.

My ex-husband (Name Withheld) divorced me and pulled the same old (#@*&) on me. During the divorce proceedings my husband convinced the judge I was bi-polar, paranoid, insanely jealous, snored, and prone to tell half truths and even lies. He got the kids and I got $200/child/month in child support!

      Seen it all before,

      PAPER OR PLASTIC ?

Shawnee has recently experienced several convenience and fast food store hold ups at gun point. No one has thankfully been hurt.

I was discussing the situation with a worker in our second largest grocery store. He said that when he started work he was told"If you are held up and the robber demands money from the cash register, ask him if he wants the money in paper or plastic?"
