DO YOU AGREE ??? (ONLY THOSE OVER 50)

                    DO YOU AGREE ???

" One major dynamic I notice between men and women is that men chase women during the approach and women chase during dating/relationships."

                                    ---Figueroa & Feliciano

MY BENT-PIN YOUTH

During the first twelve years of my life it was not gold, not silver, not folding money that occupied my search for happiness. It was something that youth today have no appreciation for or understanding of my continual quest.

"Rivers flowing gentle on my mind"---Glen Campbell

One of the best written songs in my lifetime---John Hartford. Sung by Glen Campbell:

                      Gentle on my mind
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VecunpIqlg0

                               Lyrics

It's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk
That makes me tend to leave my sleepin' bag
Rolled up and stashed behind your couch
And it's knowin' I'm not shackled
By forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you in the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
That keeps you ever gentle on my mind

It's not clingin' to the rocks and ivy
Planted on their columns now that bind me
Or something that somebody said because
They thought we fit together walkin'
It's just knowing that the world
Will not be cursing or forgiving
When I walk along some railroad track and find
That you're movin' on the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
And for hours you're just gentle on my mind

Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines
And the junkyards and the highways come between us
And some other woman's cryin' to her mother
'Cause she turned and I was gone
I still might run in silence
Tears of joy might stain my face
And the summer sun might burn me till I'm blind
But not to where I cannot see
You walkin' on the back roads
By the rivers flowin' gentle on my mind

I dip my cup of soup back from a gurglin' cracklin' cauldron
In some train yard
My beard a rustlin' coal pile
And a dirty hat pulled low across my face
Through cupped hands 'round a tin can
I pretend to hold you to my breast and find
That you're waitin' from the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
Ever smilin', ever gentle on my mind

Songwriters

A GENTLE WOMAN

           A GENTLE WOMAN
(Dedicated to my bride of 53 years)

Her gentle voice broadcast love and trust

Her gentle eyes deflected arrows of hate

Her gentle smile refreshed and renewed

Her gentle hands removed splinters in life

Her gentle spirit refused to fight or to flee

Her gentle heart was warm and accepting

Her gentle love captured and changed me

"Loveless Love"---Midnight of the Soul

I have never disliked anyone so much that I have ever wished any semblance of "Loveless Love" upon them. It is truly the Midnight of the Soul. No fraud is ever more heinous than to masquerade in the heartless task of love when it is void of sincerity. May God have Mercy upon those who have spent the larger portion of their life pretending to love someone when they only love themselves. Checkout these lyrics:

W. C. Handy
Love is like a hydrant turns off and on
Like some friendships when your money's gone
Love stands in with the loan sharks when your heart's in tongs

It I had some strong wings like an aeroplane
Had some broad wings like an aeroplane
I would fly away forever
Hover to come again
Oh love oh love oh loveless love
Has said our hearts are goldiess gold
From milkless milk and silkless silk
We are growing used to soul-less souls

Such grafting times we never saw
That's why we have a pure full law
In everything we find a flaw
Even love oh love oh loveless love
Just to fly away from loveless love

THE DAY WILL COME

THE DAY WILL COME

The day will come when we long for just one
More day to share our sorrow and time of fun

We promised each other to live with no regret
By building joint happiness so to never forget

Then came the jobs, kids no fun for us to save
The day Has come to lay a rose on your grave

NO CHADS, HANGING CHADS, OR PREGNANT CHADS IN 2016

You might remember the Florida Presidential election returns that hinged on the way punch out ballots were handled. The title of this Post is what reviewers looked for. Even after George W. was declared the winner, the Gore group filed suit and it was settled in the Supreme. Court---George W. had won. Sure you remember "I invented the Internet" Gore!

Remember, you heard it here first---the issue in 2016 will be the kinds of languages used on the ballots.

It was recently reported there are 350 different languages spoken in the homes of people living in the USA. The Texas school system has identified 85 different languages spoken by their many international students.

This is a "slip and fall" lawyer's dream come true.
It might be after Jan. 2017 before the zillion suits are settled. Any language expert is certain to make millions.

Looks like POLYGLOT might be a POLY MESS!

QUESTIONS FROM READERS ANSWERED

The identity of the person asking the question will not be revealed. The answer will be easy for the questioner to identify their concern.

1. No one has reported finding a ruby setting from your class ring that you lost during 5th Period physical ed. You might want to post some cards in area businesses. Also, the Sat. morning Radio Swap Shop could possibly help you. I am very sorry your parents cut you out of their Will for losing the set.

2. Graham Creek fishing locations. No need to fish the first mile south of the James Covered Bridge---I caught them all 50 plus years ago!

3. Check the Plain Dealer or Sun to determine what movies are showing at the Park and North Vernon Drive-In theaters.  One PCHS student met his wife at the Drive-In. She was parked with some other dude.

4.There are too many divorces in PCHS marriages for me to keep track of. Sorry your fifth marriage didn't work out.

5. Duncan Renaldo played the Cisco Kid. Yes, I watch the reruns also---after the wife goes to bed.

6. The Pythagorean theorem is only applicable in a right triangle.

Thanks for the questions. Maybe I'll answer more later.

QUICK! PULL THE LADDER UP!

QUICK! PULL THE LADDER UP!

Bill Gates is reported to be worth $79 Billion; his 7 bedroom 6 fire place and 24 bath house is reported to be worth $123 Million. He and wife Melinda have given over $28 Billion to charitable causes.

Gates has recently been critical of capitalism to solve one of his major concerns: Climate Change. Inefficiencies and lack of profit incentive within the private sector are his primary supporting evidence. Government, via increased taxes, is Gates’ solution to solving the Climate Change problem. He is joined in this position by fellow billionaires, Warren Buffet and George Soros.

Perhaps Mr. Gates failed to consider that at the national governmental level the only profit making agency is the IRS who interestingly receives a major portion of their “profit” from the private sector! Government inefficiencies are legend, whistleblowers have long reported the problem, Congress, and many in the media have continuously spotlighted the well-known, yet annually accepted inefficiencies. Office seekers seem to always run on the promise to fix the problems that government created, usually by increased funding and more government workers. What a vicious circle!

Ink is barely dry on the several articles and books that have recently been written that reveal the dismal failure of several start-up companies that were awarded government contracts for Climate Change solutions. In several cases the contracts were awarded as recognition of past political support. As Oklahomans say, “That is flat wrong!”

Maybe, just maybe, the trio of billionaires mentioned in this letter feels there is no more room at the top of the capitalism ladder of success.

NOT A NORMAL HALLOWEEN

NOT A NORMAL HALLOWEEN

                                                                     (Well, it could happen!)

Maybe Halloween imitates life. Maybe life imitates Halloween. Either way this past Halloween was one that I hope I can forget.

Just before it got flashlight dark a sweet looking mother came to the door with a baby in her arms. The infant was completely warped in a tattered blue blanket. Mom seemed to have dried tears on her cheeks. I knew something was really wrong when she said, “Forget the candy Dude. I need some real folding money to pay my overdue rent.” With a broken heart, I gave her all of the greenbacks in my wallet: About 42 bucks. She grabbed it and stuffed it into her bra and took off at a fast pace. She carried the baby under her left arm like a football. The wind was blowing toward me and I heard her yell to the man driving their late model Escalade, “Let’s roll; these bleeding heart Prairie Rubes are easy money. A couple more houses and we can party tonight!” The 42 bucks did not concern me as much as the precious baby she was carrying. I called 911 and reported the incident and was told the con artists were from New York and had beaten city residents like a rented mule for the past two nights. I gave a description of the woman, the wrapped infant, and high dollar set of wheels. The operator said all black and whites were serving as safety patrols in the low income portion of our city. She warned me to be on the lookout for some teenage boys dressed as gangbangers who were terrorizing older citizens in my subdivision.

I just got settled down when the doorbell rang and rang and rang! Opening the door with considerable fear and trepidation, there stood four older teenagers and one was carrying a pillow case. Before I could close the door, the biggest one put his foot in the door jam. One pushed a button on his smart phone, a hip-hop instrumental started and the quartet of wannabe gangbangers broke into song, “We don’t want no sweet candy—We wants all yo tools that’s handy,---Give us yo crowbar and a yo drills----Hurry up sucker we knows how to kills!” I felt something warm running down my left leg and the biggest one pointed at my darkening tan Dockers and start laughing. “Homies, this old dude is the best one yet. Let’s roll!” Before calling 911, I hurried into the house and changed my clothes.

As I hurried back to the living room, I discovered I had left the front door open. When I started closing it, I was shocked to see two of the neighbor’s pit bulldogs running down my driveway. One had my sack of Reese’s Mini-Cups and the other was locked on to my sack of KitKats’. I chased them down the street but quickly gave up and returned to my seemingly haunted Halloween house. In disgust, I turned off the porch light, locked the front door, got in my undervalued, high mileage, 2007 Dodge Mini-Van and drove to the local Chinese Restaurant. At least there I could enjoy my favorite meal---Peking Duck.

LIST OF BOOK LISTS

I don't know when I fell in love with books. We never had more than a half dozen books at home. Yet, I would borrow books from my uncle and haunt the Jennings Co, IN Library every chance I could.

Books remain something of a mystery to me. Even non-fiction works. Their construction at the publishers is not hard to visualize; but what motivated the author---really, not just the info up front in the Preface. The URL below is really a major tool for book lovers.
