I WAS GOING THROUGH SOME OLD BOOKS A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO AND DISCOVERED A POEM I WROTE IN THE MID-1990'S. YES, IT IS SILLY-- HOPEFULLY EVEN FUNNY:
Ode To A Christmas Fruit Cake
Heavy rests the stomach that eats one down
Outwardly smiles but inwardly a painful frown
The size, the bulk, the extraordinary mass
All skillfully blended to give you lots of gas
Annually they make the dutiful cheery rounds
Measured not in ounces, but in awful pounds
Be they round, square, narrow, long or slim
Eat just a few bites and its off to the gym
How strange at Christmas we celebrate the Birth
And eat something so fattening it adds to our girth
During the balance of the year we never yet taste
Anything so nutty and fruity that adds to our waist
