YELLOW MEAT WATERMELON
My first encounter with a yellow meat watermelon was in Texas. I first thought it was a joke. The locals said it was the best tasting melon on the market. I tried it and couldn't get beyond the first couple of bites. There is something strange about eating a melon that is not red.
In OK there are yellow meat watermelons but I refuse to eat one. Maybe I am too traditional, maybe too old, or maybe too smart!
My first principle of watermelon eating is to not eat any melon that looks like a lemon.
On the subset of watermelons, Jackson County melons in Indiana are very, very tasty. Likewise melons from the Rush Springs area in OK. I once saw a 60 pound melon at Rush Springs!
It is time to disregard all modesty and tell it like it is. I think I can eat more watermelon than any two adults picked at random. My late father could eat a lot, ditto a late aunt, ditto, ditto my brother in Indiana.
However, I am the champ!
In fact, one time a fellow bet me I could not eat a 25 pound watermelon. I told him I would be right back in 15 minutes. Upon my return
I then ate the 25 pounder and collected the bet. He asked me why I needed a 15 minute absence before tackling the 25 pounder. I told him I had never eaten a 25 pounder before and I went and bought me a 25 pounder and ate it to make sure I could win the bet to eat his 25 pounder!
NOW THIS IS A REAL WATERMELON
