ANOTHER CLASSMATE HAS ANSWERED THE LAST ROLL CALL v 2.0

THIS POST IS BEING PREPEARED ON A COMPUTER AT OUR PUBLIC LIBRARY---MINE HAS BIT THE DUST !!!!

A classmate and friend recently crossed River Jordon. He was very special to so many people. Next to Ronald Harrison, I saw him most following graduation. He was never too busy to talk with me and he enjoyed interaction with customers and younger people.

It was evident his marriage was real and he involved his wife in many of his business and social activities.  His children are a living testimony to a life well lived.

I hope to say more when I get back on the air from my house. This is an interim Post.

ADDED: This guy was everything I am not. He was quiet and reserved. His family was fortunate to have him all those years.

"YOU MAKE ME SICK! "

THIS A TRUE STORY----TOLD TO ME BY A PERSON WHO ATTENDED PCHS

Seems an aunt and uncle were visiting his home when he was a teenager.  During supper one evening a heated argument ensued between the aunt and uncle at the supper table.

The aunt was known for saying stupid and embarrassing remarks.  She spouted one at her husband. The uncle quickly arose from the table and charged for the back door. Just before exiting, he stopped and turned around and said,

"Jill (not real name) , you make me sick !!!"

PREPARE YOUR CHRISTMAS LETTER NOW V 2.0

I THINK I MENTIONED EARLIER THAT THE LONG CHRISTMAS LETTERS FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS DO NOT IMPRESS ME.

S-O-O-O-O I HAVE DRAFTED A LETTER TO SEND BACK:

Thank you for your 5-page Christmas newsletter. Glad 2014 was a good year for you.

Unfortunately, my business adventures have not turned out very well.

For example---I formed the first International Vertically Challenged Water Polo League and before the first quarter was over the whole league went under!

I responded to a handwritten ad on a Macon, GA all-night laundry mat bulletin board and purchased a race horse sight unseen. I drove all night to Lexington, KY and discovered the hay burner only had three legs. I should have suspected something was not right when I was on the phone and was told the nag was named Tripod.

My plan to race school buses on a Figure 8 track was halted just as the green flag was to wave. Twenty cop cars hit the track and arrested me for public endangerment. My pleas to the judge went unheeded. I argued that the chances of the forty school kids on each bus of being T-Boned from both sides of the bus during the 10 lap race were remote. Lost all of my buses and spent 150 days as a guest of the county.

I bought a used Air Force 13 aircraft that belonged to the Vice President on eBay. How was I to know it was a glider?

Seems like I get stiffed every time. My house was overrun with mice. I found an Econo-Exterminator (Fastest-Cheapest Service In Town) in the Yellow Pages. Fifteen minutes later a guy on a bicycle shows up holding a ball peen hammer and a paper sack!

I was standing in line at the Salvation Army for a free Thanksgiving turkey and the guy ahead of me got the last one. I did take home the worst case of head lice I have had in the past three years.

Just last week I was bitten by a rabid squirrel. We were fighting over a half-eaten pecan. I got the pecan, a tetanus shot, plus three stitches  AND LOTS OF SHOTS IN THE STOMACH.

Perhaps 2015 will be better. I’ll write a longer letter next Christmas!

FAMILY LEXICON-----Part 1

EVERY FAMILY HAS WORDS OR PHRASES THAT HAVE LOCAL AND LIMITED MEANING. HERE IS PART 1 OF MY FAMILY'S LEXICON:

1. GREAT GRAHAM CREEK: Very likely this flowing liquid reservoir of delight and inspiration made its way through the beautiful Garden of Eden. This creek is as close to Heaven you can get without dying. I have often thought of having my ashes deposited in the Great Graham to give the fish a chance to get even.

2. TIGO: Name of legendary monster freshwater fish that has evade all family members for decades.

3. ROCKS, ROOTS, AND RIFFLES: Favorite boyhood fishing locations on the Great Graham Creek.

4. MC DUCKS: Alternate expression for McDonalds.

HI-TECH ABE LINCOLN

Last night our electricity was out for about 2 hours. Our 16 year old grandson did his advanced placement chemistry homework by the light of his laptop computer screen.

The account of Abe Lincoln reading by the fireplace came to mind!

ANOTHER CLASSMATE HAS ANSWERED THE LAST ROLL CALL

Today I received a phone call from a classmate informing me that another one of our classmates had crossed River Jordan.

All such calls are saddening to me. While I deal with death and sorrow very frequently, the notification of the death of classmates is especially distressful.

It is hard to spend 12, or even 4 years, growing up with someone without mourning their passing.  It was in those years we were not only learning to read, add and subtract, we were learning how to live in our own bodies and how to be a productive citizen in our great country.

Our search for answers really never ended when the tassel was moved. Life is a life long school with an ultimate graduation. Heaven awaits those who have received a loving Savior named Jesus.

Our departed classmate will be remembered as a vibrant, yes, opinionated, caring, intelligent person. She loved her family and lived a life of real meaning and purpose. I consider myself fortunate to have known her for those wonderful formative years. She made me a better student and a better person. I'll never forget her.

May a Thrice Holy God help her family to trace the rainbow of His love through their tears.

Dear Friend You Will Be Missed But Never Forgotten. R.I.P.

BFF ---This site says who they are

Why Your Childhood Friends are the Best Friends You'll Ever Have

http://www.puckermob.com/relationships/why-your-childhood-friends-are-the-best-friends-youll-ever-have

RELATIONSHIPS JUL 25, 2014

Did you ever see the movieStand By Me? The last line gets me every time. “I never had any friends later like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone? ”This sentence is like a perfect capsule of childhood friendships.  When we make our very first friends, in kindergarten or nursery school or in the back yards, it’s at attachment in its purest form.
We love those friends because of who they are and not for any other reason.  Childhood friendships are formed without jealousy or competition. There’s no sexual energy. There’s no resentment or insecurity. We play with these kids just for the love of play.
Childhood friends are as close to siblings as we will ever have. There is something to be said for the entity of time when building bonds between people. Years of photographs and birthday parties and camp outs form a bond that can’t be broken. Even if we no longer see our childhood friends and aren’t in touch with them, we know that if we saw them we would smile and hug and wipe happy tears. We see past the receding hairlines and the widening waistlines to the child we knew. We always relate to these people in our child like mode even if we are friends as adults. Child like is different than childish. With these friends we can:
  • Tell them they’re stupid to their face. They aren’t insulted and we aren’t being mean.  It’s just a fact at that particular juncture.
  • Let down our guard. We don’t need to be “on” because they met us when we were “off” and they loved us anyway.
  • Share a bed or a room on a trip. We’ve slept on countless living room floors, in hundreds of forts and under the stars together.  With co-workers, not so much. (I hope.)
  • They are genuinely happy for us. We all have “frenemies.” There are lots of people we have to deal with every day of whom we are not fond.  Professional engagements, parents of our children’s friends, in-laws. You know who they are. Those people are a little envious and snide when something happens to us that’s wonderful. (If we’re honest, we feel the same way about them.) Childhood friends feel nothing but joy because you’re accomplishment is theirs as well.  Even if it isn’t.
  • We can see through the B.S. When we see these people in their “on” mode in other social venues, we laugh because we can see the child.
  • They’ve seen us at our worst. Physically and mentally our childhood friends have seen us as a mess. Whether covered in grass stains or crying big snotty ugly cries, those friends have seen it all.
Today, think about your dearest childhood friends. If you aren’t in touch, try and connect. Feel like you’re twelve again.
