FALL---WORLD SERIES TIME AGAIN !

THERE WAS A TIME WHEN THE WORLD SERIES WAS A BIG, BIG DEAL. TEACHERS WOULD LET US LISTEN TO THE SERIES IN THE STUDY HALL.

THE GAMES WERE SPONSORED BY GILLETTE RAZORS AND BLADES. STARTING AROUND LABOR DAY THE COMPANY WOULD ATTACH A SMALL BOOK OF SERIES STATS TO THEIR PRODUCTS.

MEL ALLEN--VOICE OF YANKEES---WAS THE ONLY ANNOUNCER USED FOR THE GAMES. ONE YEAR WHEN THE DODGERS DEFEATED THE YANKEES IT SOUNDED AS IF GOOD OLD MEL WAS ABOUT TO CRY.

THE MAJOR DIFFERENCE FROM TODAY IS THE GAMES WERE ALL PLAYED DURING THE DAY, (TV CONTROLS ALL OF THE BROADCASTS NOW--ALL GAMES AT NIGHT.)

I WOULD PILE UP A STACK OF LEAVES AND SLIDE INTO THEM. EACH SLIDE SCORED THE WINNING RUN IN MY MAKE BELIEVE MIND.

IT IS PROBABLY TRUE---ONCE A MAN AND TWICE A BOY. GEE---THOSE WERE GREAT DAYS !
