A FENCE OR AN AMBULANCE

http://www.sbc.net/resolutions/2273/on-refugee-ministry

1. At its best, it is an enabling support of an administration policy that threatens the very existence of our nation. No national security--no religious freedom!
2. The Resolution was artfully and skillfully drawn to give the appearance of separating Refugees from Illegal Immigration. However, the results are the same:
        a. Enhancing one political party at the expense of the other.
        b. No mention is made of giving assistance to the miniscule number of "Christian" refugees allowed by this administration.
        c. No mention is made of the Biblical mandate to visit the ballooning number of Refugees and Illegals in our prisons.
         d. No mention is made of providing care and assistance to families that have had loved ones killed, maimed, raped, assaulted, or discriminated against as a result of the Refugees and Illegals.
          e. No mention is made of the absolute need of Assimilation in a culture that is focused on Eradication.
           f. No mention is made of the "dumping of refugees" into states and cities that are viewed as opponents to this administration. Witness the dumping of 5,000 Syrians on Bowling Green, Ky---the home of Rand Paul.
           g. No mention is made of the SBC supporting legal immigration within the context of existing laws and regulations.
            h. Scriptures that discuss God's punishment upon nation's that compromise with evil are not mentioned.
            g.

CONNECTING THIRTEEN DOTS .............

1. No National Security---no religious freedom
2. No U.S. Constitution---no religious freedom
3. Mosques here, and elsewhere, are often seedbeds for terrorism. Mosques investigations have been declared off-limits by this administration
4. Refugees and "Undocumented Workers" will forever change the U.S. political landscape. The issue of Refugee settlement does not pass the smell test--Witness the dumping of 5,000 Syrian Refugees on Bowling Green, KY, the home of Rand Paul
5. Many states and cities are near a financial meltdown as a result of providing an ever expanding range of social services to Refugees and "Undocumented Workers"
6. For better or worse--Refugees and Immigration ARE the main issue in this presidential campaign
7. Correctly or incorrectly---Many, perhaps most, Americans associate the very terms Refugees and Immigration with one political party
8. Correctly or incorrectly---The SBC Resolution gives the distinct impression of supporting one political party over another
9. Many, if not most, SBC pastors have repeatedly urged members to register and vote
10. Scriptures cited in the SBC Resolution selectively omit mentioning visiting Refugees in our prisons as a result of violent crimes of murder, maiming, sexual assault,  and actions associated with gangs
11. Scriptures dealing with building of walls of protection, commands against compromising with evil nations, and not to be "unequally yoked" are nowhere referenced
12. Without the need for specific comment, the impression suggests Southern Baptist are encouraged to support one party over another
13. Mounting evidence suggests the old cliché "Where you stand depends on where you sit!" may well be applied to Russell Moore, major sponsor of the SBC Resolution, who has his office in Washington, D.C.

A Fence or an Ambulance
by Joseph Malins (1895)
-a poem about prevention -

'Twas a dangerous cliff, as they freely confessed,
though to walk near its crest was so pleasant;
but over its terrible edge there had slipped
a duke and full many a peasant.

So the people said something would have to be done,
but their projects did not at all tally;
some said, 'Put a fence 'round the edge of the cliff, '
some, 'An ambulance down in the valley.'

But the cry for the ambulance carried the day,
for it spread through the neighboring city;
a fence may be useful or not, it is true,
but each heart became full of pity
for those who slipped over the dangerous cliff;

And the dwellers in highway and alley
gave pounds and gave pence, not to put up a fence,
but an ambulance down in the valley.

'For the cliff is all right, if your careful, ' they said,
'and if folks even slip and are dropping,
it isn't the slipping that hurts them so much
as the shock down below when they're stopping.'

So day after day, as these mishaps occurred,
quick forth would those rescuers sally
to pick up the victims who fell off the cliff,
with their ambulance down in the valley.

Then an old sage remarked: 'It's a marvel to me
that people give far more attention
to repairing results than to stopping the cause,
when they'd much better aim at prevention.

Let us stop at its source all this mischief, ' cried he,
'come, neighbors and friends, let us rally;
if the cliff we will fence, we might almost dispense
with the ambulance down in the valley.'

Part II by Herbert Nehrlich

So the townspeople met at the top of the cliff
where the workmen put up a strong fence,
woven wire and posts that were hardy and stiff
and they lauded each other's good sense.

For a week the fence stood and no ambulance came
then one morning they woke up to see
that the fence had been cut from the cliff to the tree
in the valley they stood with their shame.

Said a voice from the sky, and they knew it was God
'if you keep people healthy at all
there are forces objecting as they find it quite odd
when no earls and no peasants do fall.'

And instead of a fence on the edge of the cliff
they had placed at the bottom a pool,
where they'd land in the water, not ending up stiff
but each victim was seen as a fool.

And to face their disease that had caused the neglect
they would get a big bucket of pills,
though the cost of it all would not nearly reflect
that they'd taken the fence from the hills.

But the pharmacist said 'it's the minds of all men
they are missing the atoms of dope',
and that medicine taken again and again
was the modern way's spirit of hope.

The old sage who had said that the fence should be built
then spoke up, from the cliff near the edge
but the white coated doc said it must be the guilt
and he gave to the people this pledge.

'You will no longer be in the danger to fall
from the cliff, neither earl nor a peasant,
as the ordinance says that the citizens, all
won't be wandering near any crescent.'

And the sage on the edge while addressing the town
said they're neither your neighbour nor friend.
Both the doc and his buddy then pushed the man down,
off the cliff. Thus the story does end.

JUNIOR BROWN CREATIVE COUNTRY SINGER !

JUNIOR BROWN WITH GUIT-STEEL

OK! OK! I have previously mentioned the creative genius of one Mr. Junior Brown.

His Guit-Steel
is his one-of-a-kind musical instrument invention. Junior's songs have crazy long titles, are very creative and can get easily stuck in your brain .

My favorite Junior Brown song is a tip of the cowboy hat to one of the pioneer early Country recording stars---
Ernest Tubb---known to real (that's me!) Country music fans as the original "ET." Junior does a very good job of sounding like ET.
"
My Baby Don't Dance To Nothin' But Ernest Tubb"

Here's one that helped Junior Brown score big in the Country music video world: "
My Wife Thinks You're Dead"

Junior Brown does an amazing imitation of the great Ray Price:

FIELD & STREAM MAGAZINE----COVER TO COVER ADS!

Field & Stream (Digital) Magazine June 1st, 2016 Issue
SHE AIN'T WHAT SHE USED TO BE

Growing up in Southern Indiana in the '50s, old Outdoor Life, Sports Afield, and Field & Stream magazines from richer friends kept my teenage fishing motor racing all year around.

That was then; this is now ! I purchased the June-July 2016 issue of Field & Stream and was amazed, astonished and angered to discover the entire issue was nothing more than ads---with some connecting content thrown in here and there. A more appropriate title would be Field & Stream Catalog. With circulation of all print media falling faster than Glenn Beck's radio and television ratings, charging manufacturers for ads helps offset the dramatic dive in readership. The math is rather simple---Mr. Watson. (Remember, Mr. Beck has twice publicly expressed his desire to see harm come to Mr. Trump.)

Don't Leave Me Now Lucille! Government (think FCC) efforts to control the Internet is nigh on to complete. Political content that is controversial, and government makes the call, will be eliminated (think 1984)! Also, look for a national, as well as state, tax to be imposed on all Internet purchases. This will greatly narrow the open market place that now exists. Customers will return to reading catalogs and magazines like Field & Stream will not only Survive, they will Thrive in tomorrow's Brave New World !

IT DIDN'T HURT A BIT---THE DIVORCE IS FINAL !

NEW VERSION OF MY OLD SCHOOL CAP

OK! Now that you are at this Post, I'll give you the true account of my divorce from the Cincinnati Reds. It doesn't hurt me to talk about it. In fact, I ask my self why I waited so long? I am sleeping better at night; not rushing out to the front yard to get my newspaper; and no longer staying up late when the Reds play West Coast Teams!

The following letter was sent to the Reds front office (Honest):

June 8, 2016

Cincinnati Reds Baseball Club:

I thought you might like to know there was no Hearing, no Mediation, just a Final Judgement.

After over sixty five years of faithfully following the Reds from Wyatt Hoyt to Al Michaels to Marty & the Old Left Hander and to Marty and the Cowboy, I am now divorced from the Reds.  The recent winning spurt is too little too late.

My divorce came about because of management’s unfaithfulness, unwarranted Fire Sales, failure to fire managers, failure to make good trades and no visible attempt to extricate this team from an eternal sentence of last place.

The relationship I have experienced with the Reds has covered the magical times spent in the sundeck at Crosley Field, joys of the Big Red Machine at Riverfront, and to the almost continuous heartbreak of watching the MLB Network at The Great American Ball Park.

At 74 years of age, I can longer risk the failure of this organization to provide some much needed entertainment and enjoyment before I am optioned to that final Field of Dreams in the sky.

As a result, I am returning my Old School Reds cap for a decent burial.  I am now embarrassed to wear it in public. If I took it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army I fear almost certain ridicule or even worse.

Some night when the Reds are losing another laugher, look up into the sky, I will be the guy standing by the cornfield but not wearing a Reds cap! “This is the old former Reds fan rounding third and heading to another team!”  To quote Roy Hobbs of the NY Knights, “Pick me out a good one Bobby.”

DANGERS OF CLEANING YOUR GARAGE/ATTIC/CLOSET

VERY SIMILAR TO MY GARAGE

I didn't want to do it! The temperature today is 97 F and about 107 F inside our garage. We have that small garage packed with an assortment of grandkids trophies, pictures, school items, and enough Boy Scout camping equipment to equip a small army. My "toys" of fishing, astronomy, ham radio gear, plus 20 years of Air Force stuff took up over half of the space. My dear wife only has a few items in that museum of relics. Cars have long since said goodbye to protection and comfort.

Beyond the high temperatures and a zillion items, the real danger is reading some of the history of our family that photos and memorabilia reveals, looking at real typewriter material, and realizing many of the photos and letters were from people who have crossed the finish and answered the only roll call that counts.

Today was a self-imposed time machine journey to yesterday. It was funny in spots, sad in others, and a needful wakeup call that most of the saved stuff was just that---stuff. Best guess is I have 3 more days. It is bad, real bad!

COUNTRY PLAYS WELL IN THE BIG CITY

BUCK OWENS
OK! OK! I am on a big country music trip this afternoon. Love him or hate him, the Old Buckaroo was one of the true icons of Country Music; he and Merle Haggard put California on the Country Music map. Buck was very popular with GI's when I was privileged to serve.

WE AIN'T PROUD OF THIS !!!!!

I RECENTLY HAD A DISCUSSION WITH A BEER VENDOR FOR THE LARGEST BEER MAKER IN AMERICA. WHAT HE TOLD ME MADE ME ASHAMED OF MY CITY:

THE WAL-MART IN MY CITY SELLS MORE BEER THAN ANY OTHER WAL-MART IN OKLAHOMA!

IT GETS WORSE:
ALSO IN MY CITY IS A VERY LARGE INDEPENDENT GROCERY STORE WHICH SELLS MORE BEER THAN ANY OTHER INDEPENDENT GROCERY STORE IN OKLAHOMA !!!

THE ABOVE IS WHAT WE HAVE. WELL, NOT EXACTLY, HERE'S WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS WE HAVE:

IN FACT, I HAVE SIX POINTS, NOT CANS, FOR "JOE SIX-PACK" AND ALL OF HIS GOOD OLD BOYS AND GOOD TIME CHARLIE FRIENDS.

GENESIS 4:7
"......But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” (HCSB)

UP FRONT AND ON TOP: THIS SIX POINT SERMON IS INTENDED FOR JUST THE FOLLOWING SIX GROUPS OF PEOPLE:
1. BAR TENDERS &
2. ELBOW BENDERS
3. LOST WEEKENDERS&
4. ENABLING MONEY LENDERS
5. MISERABLE CHRISTIAN PRETENDERS &
6. EVERYONE ELSE

Before I go too much farther, I want to dispel some well- practiced deceptions.
If every  Baptist preacher in America had a 100 dollars for every time they have been told these---the Annuity Board could close up shop!

1. I don't drink a lot, I am just a social drinker. That is a social cope-out, probably a social lie.

2. Preacher, he doesn't drink, but he does like his cold beer. "How much beer does he drink each night?" Only a six-pack---"Wow, that's 72 ounces which is close to five pounds of beer!"

3. Does he ever take a six-pack of beer fishing? No,  no, but one of his fishing buds might bring a suitcase! They fish and drink beer.

4. OK, preacher he does drink lots of beer, BUT at least he is not doing drugs! Somebody needs to get this person a dictionary.

OUR BIBLE TEXT REVEALS:

1. Doing Right Starts By Not Doing Wrong

A black candidate for the deacon ministry was asked to define the Biblical term: "Election". Without any delay he replied, "That's easy, God voted yes, the Devil voted no, and God let me break the tie!"
Believe it or not God is still waiting to count your ballot. He is not waiting for the votes to come in from Florida. Rather, He is earnestly, tenderly waiting for yours. The Bible says, "Choose you this day whom you will serve. How will you vote???

Your decision is much, much more than just the next 4 years, much more than the next 40 years; it is for Eternity. There are no Courthouse Calendars, Classroom Clocks or Cheap Casios (mine cost $15 at Wal-Mart) in Heaven. No Minutes, Months or Moon in Heaven. No Shadows,  Sundials or Sun in Heaven. The Bible also tells us there will be Singing, Serving and most of all, our Saviour in Heaven. Years ago I heard a preacher say we will probably have two big surprises in Heaven: There will be some folks there we didn't think would be there AND  there will not be some folks we thought would be there! My dear friends we have to get our destiny determined right and right now. Because someday the polls of life will close!

2. Sin And Sinners Are Everywhere

Sin has been defined a number of ways by a number of different sinners. Yes sinners, we are all sinners (IF YOU LEAVE NOW YOU'LL MISS THE BEST PART!) by our nature and choice. Here's an illustration that might help you, it helps me understand sin: While parked at a stoplight some years ago I was facing head on into the blinding afternoon sun. My sunglasses didn't help, the visor didn't help, only my well-placed hand blocked the sun. The light had just turned Red so I knew I had time for a little experimentation.  I discovered, like any boy scientist, that two fingers would block the sun, IF, I brought them closer that my full hand. Next, one finger would block the sun but I had to bring that one finger ever closer. Finally, a thumb nail within an inch of my eye blocked the sun.  What does this have to do with sin: Anything that blocks our view of God's S-O-N is sin. Some here know the first of the 10 Commandments in which God says, "Thou shall have no other gods before me" Translated: Big or small they all block your view of Jesus--that's sin!

                        3. Sin Doesn't Wear A Bell Collar

Have you ever heard anyone say that beer, or any alcohol, makes them feel like a tiger? This verse directly and indirectly says a lot about tigers (here it means sin) Tigers crouch---so too sin. Tigers are concealed----so too sin---Ever wonder why bars and honky- tonks are nearly dark?. Have you ever noticed that when the lights come on cockroaches scatter? Tigers do not wear bell collars---ditto sin. Here's a big, big point, they are always close--ditto sin. But my dear friends the Bible says Jesus will stick closer than a brother.

A former Navy Seal once told me that during a fire fight in Vietnam he was forced to take refuge alone in an old vacant building in the jungle. Charlie and a violent thunderstorm were just outside. During the lightning flashes he noticed a tiger resting in a corner diagonally opposite where he was squatted down. Here is perhaps the ultimate dilemma: Shot the tiger and risk almost certain death or capture. Run out of the building and risk a tiger attack and death or capture by the VCs. His decision was to wait and pray for deliverance. Hours later the storm stopped, the enemy had withdrawn, and the tiger left unnoticed. In this instance the tiger was not crouching outside the door; he was in the house with an American GI! Prayer made all the difference!

                                4. Desire Can Get Thick In A Hurry

A six-pack desires you more than you desire the six-pack. The hospital desires YOUR money more than you desire the six-pack; ditto the insurance companies; ditto the auto repair garages; ditto the lawyers; ditto the beer makers; ditto the bars and honky tonks, ditto all of your supposed friends and buddies.

A fellow once told me that when he went to work at a new job he was told by one of his new fellow-workers, "We'll stick with you through thick and thin. When things get thick we will thin out!" A lot of beer drinking buddies are just like that. But my dear friends the Bible says Jesus will not THIN out on you when things get THICK. Seven plus decades of life have demonstrated at multiple times, in multiple places, and to multiple people things will sooner or later get THICK. We have His Word on it that He'll walk with us through the valley of shadow of death. He'll meet you at the point of your need. He'll pull you down off a binge high and He'll lift you up when you are passed out cold or even puking your guts out in the bathroom. Someone has observed, "When Jesus is all you have--Jesus is all you need. Do you have him today? Are you sheltered in His arm? You can be.

Please listen to this story---Many years ago, when horse and buggies were the primary mode of transportation, a young 9 year boy was sitting alone in a buggy  when a teenager ignited a firecracker near the buggy. The horse broke free of the hitching rail and sped down the street with a frightened and crying boy. A lawyer was just leaving his office when this mobile tragedy was heading his way. He ran out and grabbed the harness and stopped the run-away buggy. Fast forward a decade: The lawyer was now a judge and the young buggy rider was 19 and an accused murderer. Just before the sentence was announced the young murderer cried out to the judge, "Judge, I am the young boy you saved 10 years ago. Have mercy on me." The solemn judge replied, "Young man, then I could save you, now I must judge you."  The Bible clearly says that it is appointed unto man once to die, then the judgment. Today Jesus is your soul-saving friend; after you die He must judge you. Are you ready for His judgment?

     5. The Crosshairs Of Satan vs. The Safety of the Saviour

Every human heart has a bulls-eye on it that enables Satan to zero in on you from close or long range. You may have seen where one of our highly trained snipers took out a terrorists a mile away. I actually talked to a woman who was the daughter of the man whose company makes long range sniper weapons. Satan's mission statement concerning you is found in John 10:10: 10 The thief (may I say that old crouching tiger) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Folks I didn't write that, neither did anyone in St. Louis Mo; Denver, Co; Boston, MA; or Old Milwaukee, WI. Those are the words of the Creator of the Universe, the Giver and Sustainer of All Life, our only hope of Heaven--The Lord Jesus Christ. Notice too what Jesus said about Himself,  I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I love what Dr. Roy Fish said about Jesus' statement---He is not only talking about a home in the sky by and by BUT how to make it through the dirty here and now !!!! That's what you and I need everyday.

                  6. With Jesus All Things Are Possible

The controlling of passions for love, leisure or long necks cannot be done by yourself. But with Jesus the Bibles says, "All things are possible." The desire for a six-pack, let me expand that to be the desire  for anything that blocks, dims or cuts Jesus out will ultimately lead to making yourself you own God! Paul said he was "Crucified with Christ---his selfish, sinful, selfie-driven god of his own making---nevertheless I live ! That starts with admitting to God what He already knows------- that you are a sinner-----a Hell-deserving sinner---- and that you are sorry enough for letting that crouching tiger take over your life you ask for His forgiveness and promise to make Jesus Lord of your life. Why would you want to do that? Because God loved you so much He gave His Son as a substitute sacrifice for your sins. Jesus said it best: I am the way the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.  He is our one and only way to Heaven. He is the only way for our sins to be forgiven; He is our only way to resist that crouching tiger that has you dead center on his evil radar--as the weather guys say when a tornado is heading your way---RED LINE--CENTER LINE! You are target number 1!

Finally, you maybe here feeling real good about never wanting to  drink a beer or any alcohol--- s-o-o-o this sermon is for those other guys, right? Hang on to  your self-absorbed I AM OK & EVERYBODY ELSE IS NOT OK; incorrect, false, holier than thou attitude. The Bible says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. This same Bible says there is none righteous no not one. Furthermore this Bible says that the wages--the grand payday---of sin is death---but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The late R.G. Lee preached his "Payday Someday" sermon an estimated one thousand times. But people who leave this life without Christ will cry out after their first second in Hell, " Mayday! Mayday!"

I am going to guess there are some beer and other substance abuse overcomers here who are thankful and courageous enough to come and stand by me as a testimony of what Jesus has done and is doing in their lives.  And there are probably several here who are prime candidates for a soul-saving, bought by the blood, sin delivering, Eternity-changing miracle of a New Birth. Today Jesus can save you--Tomorrow He will judge you!

Two frogs sat on the edge of a pond. One decided to jump in. How many were left? Two---he only decided and never followed through. This is the right time, the right place, the right opportunity to not only decide to follow Jesus but to follow through by coming forward as your first act of obedience to His claim upon your life. Come on! Come now! Please don't delay you may not have another day. Come on! Come now! The Saviour wants to meet you in the polling booth of your life. He is waiting for you.

EXTREMELY WELL DONE RAIL INFO

BNSF LOCOMOTIVE

Up front and on top, I am a railroad advocate from all the way back to the monster steam engines. My DNA has coal smoke and rail spikes in it. Many of my kin folks worked on the "Road". I have a female cousin in MS that is now an engineer on the Southern Line. A late uncle and his late son were engineers as well. Most of my relatives did the hard outside work---maintaining track.
"Listen to the jingle, the rumble and the roar...."

The BNSF system is the major railroad in our area. Consequently, I know a little bit more about their operations than other lines.

The following company provided URL does an excellent job of describing the important role that railroads play in everyday life---ALL ABOARD!

LESSONS FROM A TRUE CORNBREAD FRIEND *

* Please see Post 9-14-11 for "Cornbread"explanation

Maybe you have thought to yourself, or even told someone, that you wonder what kind of (Fill  in the Blank) someone would have made.

I am increasingly proud and inspired by what my dear friend, Ronald Harrison, HAS made.

Ronald has battled heart attacks and multiple surgeries to "live everyday as a bonus." His attitude of enjoying life now and being confident of his future is something that makes you feel better just talking to him.

Give me 5 minutes to chat with someone and I can surmise what things are really most important in that person's life. Every conversation I have ever had with him since we have grown up includes his family. His wife, daughters, grand kids, his original home family are always topics number 1, 2, & 3 with him.

In our modern Selfie-driven, family ignoring, and Devil destroying world, Ronald is a real Man among selfish weaklings. I speak from experience. While I was becoming a professional success in the military and educational world, I was flunking out in the most important subject of all---my family. I continue to pay a high, high price for my failures.

Ronald Harrison, my true cornbread and life long friend, I salute you for showing me what is really important in life!

HE WAS THE GREATEST !!!!

' IF YOU CAN DO IT, IT AIN'T BRAGGING !!'

Muhammad Ali’s death has put my “memory tape” into fast rewind. It is incorrect to call me an on-going boxing fan; however, I am a Muhammad Ali fan. Here is why:

Growing up in Southern Indiana in the ‘50s sports on the three TV channels we received was limited---very limited. However, on Saturday afternoon a live amateur boxing show was broadcast on a Louisville, KY station. The show was prophetically called “Tomorrow’s Champions”. The amateur boxing program was part of the Louisville Police Department’s work with city youth.

I was mesmerized by a 16 year old fighter called Cassius Clay--- later to become Muhammad Ali. It was probably because this young phenome was 16, same as me; because he seemed to always win; but mainly it was because his hands and feet were lightning fast. The cameramen sometimes had trouble following him as he danced around the ring!

Later, my interest in the 1960 Olympics in Rome was turned up to high beam because a fellow Purdue University student---Terry Dischinger--- was on the USA basketball team, as well as the future world heavyweight boxing champion---Cassius Clay. The results are now part of Olympic history.

After Rome, he turned professional and encountered Howard Cosell, an ABC Wide World of Sports announcer. The friendly, unfriendly interviews they had made for great TV, invigorated boxing and helped propel the careers of each.

His classic wins over the likes of Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, and George Foreman are likely to never be duplicated. While Ali’s stance on the Vietnam War was contradictory to mine, I respected his right as an American to hold and act upon such beliefs.

It has been said that at one time he had the most recognized face in the entire world. But for me and millions upon millions of others he will forever be recognized as The Champ!

LET THE WORD GO FORTH.....

EVERY NOW AND THEN WE GET FORM LETTERS FROM FRIENDS AND FAMILY---I HATE THESE SELF-SERVING NEWSPAPERS! NOBODYS' FAMILY IS THAT GOOD OR THAT COOL. HERE IS ONE OF THE CRAZY RESPONSES I SEND BACK:

Just in case you are wondering how we are doing, here’s a short run down.

Our summer got off to a very bad start.

The cow went dry; and an egg-sucking snake cleaned out the hen house; and the Watkins man refuses to give us any more credit.

My lab tests came back and the doctor says they showed I should not buy anymore green bananas. I don’t know why he would say that.

Two men, dressed in black with very dark sunglasses, sold me a   million dollar insurance policy for disasters caused by the approach of that planet Nibiru. I didn’t tell them my check was only valid on Nibiru.

One of the Gypsy barn roof painters fell off the roof and has sued me because I didn’t provide a safe working environment. To make matters worse, the first rain washed all of the paint off.

I got all excited about horse racing after watching the KY Debry. I answered a Craig’s List ad and purchased a sure fire winner sight unseen named Tripod. Can’t wait until he gets here from Nigeria.

I bought one of those “As Seen On TV” thin wallets at Walgreen’s. Before I left the store a pick pocket lifted it from me. The police said those skinny wallets are easy pickings for “Dips”---that’s what they call pick pockets.

Went to Wal-Mart the other day and there in the parking lot I was rolled by a disorderly band of undisciplined youth.  I thought I was making some progress trying to talk them out of a life of crime and violence until I was struck by the apparent ring leader. His weapon of choice was his son’s birthday piñata containing an anvil. Doctor says the jaw wires will come off in three months. My advice: Buy all of the Aleve stock you can.

I really fooled the CDC mobile research team. They gave me two bucks to stick my hand into this pillow case looking thing containing 3,000 Zika-carrying mosquitos. Those guys are not too smart----I’m a guy that is not even pregnant!

Our TV went out last week. Come to find out it was that acne- covered, alternative school dropout, wild son of our neighbor’s. He stole our satellite dish to take to a carry-in dinner for all of the clients of his case worker.

My bank had a big outdoor BBQ last month on the bank’s lawn. The big event was to say thanks to current account holders and to open some new accounts. All of the employees of the bank----except Homer, the bank janitor---were on the lawn having a big time with all of us. While everyone was eating and playing Blindfolded Lawn Darts the bank safe was clean out---bare as grandma’s cookie jar. The police and federal investigators have no clues. On Monday morning, a lady with a foreign accent called the bank and said Homer had taken ill and his return was unknown.

Maybe the best news of all happened last week. While we were attending the annual 4-wheel drive, off-road, solar-powered Shriners Clown Car Show, the Publisher’s Clearing House came to our house. The neighbors say they had balloons, cameras, and a super-large card board check. And can you believe it these nice people left us a handwritten note:

“Sorry we missed you. Please enter again next year.”

In one day we attended a great one-of-a-kind car show and got a personal note from some very nice people. Life is good!

So you can see things are really starting to look up around here.

I’ve saved the best news for last: We got a nice picture postcard from Homer and it was covered with funny looking stamps with a language on them that no one can read. He has completely recovered and says he is having a wonderful time and will be a new father in November. Seems like things are getting better for everybody!

"I'm a Goofy Goober" --SpongeBob & Patrick V 2.0

OK! OK! I watch way too much children's cartoons. The first SpongeBob movie contained the silly song mention in the title of this Post.

I enjoy watching SpongeBob  with my grand kids and their friends. The cartoon has multiple levels of humor. Some the kids do not get and some I do not get!

I am in a cartoon mood s-o-o-o I created this corny riddle:

Q. If a new computerized cartoon of Popeye was ever produced, what would Wimpy put on his hamburger?

Ans. Pixels !!!

If you don't get it---have your grand kids explain it to you!!!!!

ON THIS MEMORIAL DAY THIS IS SPECIAL !!!

THERE IS A LOT OF DISCUSSION ABOUT LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT IN THE MILITARY. I WISH I HAD SAID THIS FIRST:

Management: Doing things right

Leadership: Doing the right things

Having served an Air Force career, I saw both management and leadership. With the real time reporting environment of today's military we have a lot more management than leadership. Leadership is becoming more and more centralized. In my view, America is not well served by this tendency. Yes, I have a built-in bias in favor of local units. They, more than anyone, understand the challenges, stakes and the consequence of all decisions

I once heard a four-star general say that he had more authority as a captain than he has as a general officer! That is an awesome statement!
Politics drives too many decision.

DUCK DYNASTY HAS IT RIGHT HAPPY-HAPPY-HAPPY !

10 things that make me happy

1. The first watermelon of the season

2. A baby that smiles back at me

3. Smelling honeysuckles in Spring

4. Unexpected call from an old friend

5. Neighbor returns tool borrowed in 2014

6. In OK, rain between June and September

7. Finding my checkbook—keys---wallet

8. Watching Monarch butterflies in flight

9. Remembering wife’s grocery list

10. Looking the commode/urinal in the face without regret

One of the advantages of getting old, for me at least, it takes a whole lot more to make me mad and a whole lot less to make me happy.

F.I.G.M.O.----A FEW KNOW WHAT IT MEANS

"THE ROCK"

While serving on a very remote, 2x4 mile tour of duty at Shemya, Alaska, I heard for the first time the acronym: F.I.G.M.O.

It was not long before I heard the "official", unabridged meaning. It was used by troops who had orders to finally be going home. NOTICE: BECAUSE THIS BLOG CAN BE ACCESSED BY ANYONE, HERE IS THE "G" RATED VERSION:

"Forget (*) it I've Got My Orders!"

* GIs Used A Vulgar Word For "Forget".)

Persons who were soon to rotate home also were said to be "Short"...nothing else.... just short.

I challenge any Blog reader to describe a more creative group than the American service member. Here's some samples:

a. He was so SHORT he would not accept long distant phone calls!

b. He was so SHORT he needed a booster chair in the Chow Hall!

c. My Favorite: An airman got an appointment to see "The Old Man" the unit commander. After saluting, he asked the commander to issue him a step ladder. A somewhat put out commander shot back, "Your duties do not require the use of a step ladder!"

"Sir, it has nothing to do with my duty station."

"Then why do you need a step ladder?"

"You see sir, I am so SHORT I need a step ladder to get out of my bed!"

"Get out of here!"

'MAMMA, I KNOW YOU WARNED ME.......'

Don't Count Your Confessions Too Soon
                  (A FICTIONAL STORY)
Jacob (Jake) Stubbs had a unique ability to think and talk like the Stream of Consciousness play write----Eugene O'Neill.

'What will she say.....I can't stand this.....it must be done soon or I'll go nuts......maybe jump in front of a big rig on the Interstate.....maybe I'll die before I have to tell her.....maybe she will die and I'm home free....you think like a mad man.....I must do it today..... and do it right....17 years of marriage demands the truth.....the truth can really hurt.'

Jake and Nancy seldom went to an upscale restaurant. He chose Oliver's because reservation were easy to get, he knew the maître dei,  and Nancy would be less likely to raise a stink when he confessed to her in a popular and crowded eating and drinking spot.

Shortly after they were about half completed enjoying their soup, Jake swallowed hard, took a long drank of water, cleared his throat and looked at Nancy. Inside of Jake, the butterflies had long since been frightened away by the worse sakes he had ever experienced.

"This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do", said the trembling Jake.

Nancy reached over and grasped his right arm and gave it a couple of gentle strokes.

For a few speechless moments, their entire 17 years of marriage went through his mental central processing unit. From that first date, their courtship, a secret plan to run away and get married---which didn't happen, the honeymoon in Hawaii, their first rented home, the birth of each of their three children, the breast cancer scare, and even the biggest trout he ever caught on one of their vacations. He had to do it!

Nancy's heart was going at hyper speed and she feared the worst---he was having an affair.

She spoke, "I love you and promise to stand with you through thick and thin. Are you having an affair?"

"No, No it is nothing like that."

With great relief, she said, "Then, what is it?"

"OK, OK, I am hooked....I can't do this."

"Honey, please continue."

"I am hooked on.......I am afraid you will hate me"

"I will not...I love you too much."

"You will get very upset. And start crying"

"I am sure I will if you don't tell me."

"OK, here goes: I am hooked on ......I am hooked on Phonetics. There I said it!"

Nancy slumped back in her seat, spilling some of here now tepid onion soup on her new J.C. Penney sun-flower pattern dress.

Jake wet his napkin and applied it to her forehead.
A collection of customers and restaurant staff stood like a sentinel guard around them. Jake asked for the check, threw three $50 bill on the barely used table cloth and helped her to their car and made a fast retreat toward home. Neither spoke on the way home.

Nancy made a bee line to their upstairs bathroom. Jake brought in the mail, locked up and quietly went to comfort his pale and much distraught help meet.

Her clothes were neatly folded on her side of the bed. From inside the bathroom he could hear his shell-shocked wife of a decade and an half whispering to her mother. Jake heard this very faintly:

"Momma, may I come home for a few weeks?"

"I know, I know you said Jake was no good, a jerk, a phony  and a cherry bomb primed to go off."

"Mamma he said before God and Country at Oliver's, you know that upscale steak and lobster joint on 45th, that he was addicted"

"NO,NO his addiction is not drugs. No, not booze. Not Porn or anything like that."

"What is his addiction? Mamma, Jake confessed he was hooked on Phonetics. Mamma, Mamma are you still there? Mamma is your phone acting up again? Mamma? Mamma you on?"

Jake quickly tip-toed out of the room. Waited about 30 seconds and walked back in with the biggest smile she had ever seen him wear.

Tonight, Jake did not wrestle with his un-confessed secret and how to break it to Nancy. Instead, he wondered how much GED classes for Nancy would cost.

"Love You .Good Night, Honey."

"Love You too!"

Maybe, they ought to enroll in GED as a pair. Tuition might be cheaper! Plus, he might get extra credit if he brought his Phonetics cards to class.
